Lecturer at the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds
Dr Jordan Boyle is a lecturer in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds and a founding member of the EPSRC National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems – a £4.3M advanced manufacturing facility. He obtained a BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town before coming to Leeds for a PhD in Computational Neuroscience in the School of Computing.
Jordan’s research lies on the interface of Engineering and Biology – he is interested in using biological inspiration to develop robotic systems, and in applying robotic solutions to biological challenges. Research projects have included developing a miniature mobile robot for use in colonoscopy and a snake-like robot controlled by a model of the C. elegans nervous system.
Jordan is a proponent of public engagement having been involved in many face-to-face events aimed at getting future generations interested in Engineering.
